Pam McDonnell is the English Language Acquisition and Immigrant Education consultant in the Bureau of School Improvement for the Iowa Department of Education. Pam has been working in the field of education for more than 30 years, 25 of those years, she has worked with English learners in Arizona, Minnesota and Iowa. Pam has a passion for equity and serving traditionally underserved student populations. She has taught at all levels pre-k through preservice undergrads. Pam has also worked as a school principal and has served in many other administrative roles. Pam has worked in public schools, charter schools and in the private sector. She loves learning about new cultures and finds value in all that our diverse population offers. Pam’s greatest hope for Iowa’s English Learners and Immigrant students is to see a dramatic increase in the level of concern for meeting the needs of these students across the state. Ultimately, Pam hopes to see all educators across Iowa express interest and build their capacities to serve these populations effectively. When she isn’t working, Pam enjoys outdoor activity, reading, traveling, creative endeavors and spending time with family and friends.
